Abbotsford Hospital Lockdown Lifted After Weapons Report; Suspect Arrested

Abbotsford Hospital Lockdown Abbotsford, British Columbia — A lockdown at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre was lifted Monday afternoon after police responded to reports of a possible weapon inside the facility.

According to the Abbotsford Police Department, officers were called to the hospital shortly after 2 p.m. on March 16 following a report from hospital staff that a person may have been seen with a gun. The facility was immediately placed under lockdown as a precaution while police investigated the situation.

Authorities deployed a large police presence to the scene, with officers conducting a detailed floor-by-floor and room-by-room search of the hospital to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors. Approximately 30 officers were involved in the response.

During the investigation, the suspect reportedly left the hospital in a vehicle and was later located and taken into custody at another location. Officials confirmed that no shots were fired and no injuries were reported during the incident.

Police announced around 3:15 p.m. that the lockdown had been lifted after the building was cleared and confirmed safe. Hospital operations subsequently returned to normal, and authorities stated there was no ongoing threat to public safety.

In a statement following the incident, police thanked hospital staff and the public for their patience and cooperation during the emergency response.
