Eisenhower Interstate 290 Shooting Today – Shooting on I-290 Near Chicago Disrupts Traffic, Illinois State Police Say

Eisenhower Interstate 290 Shooting Today: A shooting incident on the Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290) near Chicago, Illinois, caused significant traffic disruptions earlier today as authorities launched an investigation into the gunfire reported on the busy highway.

According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), the incident occurred in the inbound lanes of I-290 during the morning hours. Troopers responded after receiving reports that shots had been fired from one vehicle toward another traveling along the expressway.

Preliminary information indicates that a driver of a white box truck reported being struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle. The driver was injured and later transported for medical treatment, though officials have not publicly released details regarding the severity of the injuries.

As investigators worked the scene, authorities temporarily closed lanes of the expressway between areas near Cicero Avenue and Independence Boulevard. The closures caused heavy traffic delays for commuters traveling toward downtown Chicago during the morning rush hour.

Law enforcement officers canvassed the area for evidence and searched for the suspect vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting. At the time of initial reports, no arrests had been announced and the investigation remained ongoing.

After police completed the initial investigation and cleared the roadway, all lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway were eventually reopened, allowing traffic to resume normal flow.

Authorities continue to ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information about the shooting to contact the Illinois State Police as the investigation proceeds.
